About High Desert Lumber
A Responsible Lumber Supplier
Producing lumber from nearby timber resources will positively impact over five acres of forestland per day and reduce the hazard of wildfire on over 2,000 acres annually. The necessary salvage and thinning operations that reduce fire hazards not only benefit the regional timberlands, but also the local community. It is anticipated that over half the logs processed in the High Desert Lumber mill will either be from dead trees or trees that have been thinned from overstocked timber stands.
Such thinning will reduce the hazard of a wildfire that threatens the forestland and its ecosystem. High Desert Lumber follows responsible practices to support the regional timberlands and allow them to flourish for generations to come.

High Desert Lumber, located in Alturas, CA, brings high-quality structural and dimension lumber to Modoc County. We are your go-to lumber supplier for fencing, wood chips, and more. We make our products with about 75%-80% Ponderosa Pine, and the rest with White Fir lumber.

The High Desert Lumber mill creates lumber supply opportunities to market small-diameter timber in danger of being lost to fire, as well as creating a market for local timber sellers. This, in turn, benefits the region's forestlands by reducing the wildfire risk to over 2,000 acres a year. Our experienced founders have decades of experience with lumber supply. Production
We focus on producing common, dimension, and industrial lumber from Ponderosa Pine, True Fir, Incense Cedar, and a small amount of Western Juniper.
In early 2023, High Desert's lumber will be rough and green to air dry. We will be adding a dry kiln in late 2023 to provide kiln-drying services. Our lumber supply will be primarily dimension and board lumber in lengths to 16 feet, with about 75%-80% Ponderosa Pine and White Fir lumber making up most of the balance.
